Sunrise from my bedroom window!

I’ve been trying to decide between two bedrooms (very challenging to have so many choices!) but the other morning this is what i woke up to. Needless to say, i’ve made my decision!

Dang! I just downloaded the app for this blog, thinking that would enable me to post photos from my ipad, but i’m not seeing an “add photo” icon.

Well, i’ll publish this and then see if i can post a photo after that…..

Demenagement de Toulon a Collioure

just got back yesterday afternoon from toulon where i went to pack up my stuff to bring it to collioure. my buddy louis referred me to a really nice couple who did the move at a very reasonable price. they even gave me a ride back to collioure so i wouldn’t have to take the train (no extra charge!). 🙂 i liked their style – very mellow and willing to take their time and enjoy life. instead of rushing to get to collioure the fastest way, they took the scenic route (even tho it made the trip a few hours longer) and for lunch, instead of eating as we drove along, we stopped at a little parking area with trees that could shelter us from the rain that was threatening to fall (it didn’t). christian took a little folding table out from his truck, along with a thermos of coffee and one with hot water (his wife bridgitte drinks tea). he even had a knife to cut the sandwiches (which were enormous and delicious!) and folding chairs. obviously this is something they do on a regular basis!!

it took all of 5 minutes to load up the truck in toulon b/c there were no stairs and it was a very short walk from the house to the truck. once we were in collioure, however, it was a different story – i have 29 steps leading to my house -ooof!!! i had asked bane, who had been kind of the handyman here (he’s moving out tho) to be here to help and he also brought another guy along, thank goodness. and we were super lucky because, despite weather reports of storms and rain all day there was no rain during the time we were hauling stuff upstairs. apparently i missed a huge storm the nite before, too and late last nite we had another downpour. i saw on the news that the town of lourdes had a big flood and 450 people had to be evacuated. all you could see was rushing water moving thru the town where the streets had been. fortunately, the statue of the virgin mary was high enuf that the water didn’t reach her.

at last, i finally have my stuff in one place. now all i have to do is sort thru everything and find a place to put it all. ack! for such a big house there’s hardly any storage space – another opportunity to get rid of stuff!!! i feel like now i can really settle into my life in france – it only took me a year and a half!! now i just want to stay home and nest!! hope the weather warms up again so i can go back out to my little garden and spend some time there with the trees and plants. what a tranquil little haven it is. i am truly blessed!!!

this says it all!!

"i have arrived. I am home"

this is a painting on my favorite street, rue de la fraternite.  the last two lines, “i have arrived, i am home” are a quote from thich nhat hanh. isn’t it just perfect?
and on the left of the painting, the door you see with the light above it is the entrance to le 5eme peche, my favorite restaurant. i love this photo!!
as you can see, i was finally able to post a photo. it seems i can do it from my mac and not my ipad. the problem is all the photos of my new home are on the ipad and i haven’t figured out how to “share” my photos on both the laptop and iPad. i don’t want to take photos right now with my camera b/c my place is in chaos with all the stuff i just brought back from toulon (more later). ah well, it will all sort itself out, i’m sure. in the meantime, please be patient!! 🙂

Aside

Arrrrrrrrr!!!

I don’t seem to be able to find the link to the photos i posted on facebook.  If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know!

Photo posting frustration

I tried to post photos of my new home but the option that i used to click on is no longer there and the one that’s there now doesn’t do anything when i click on it. I even went thru the tutorial and they showed the same icon that i used to use, so that didn’t help. Well, i’m going to post some of the photos on facebook, just b/c i have to do something with all this photo posting energy that i’ve built up here!

after i do that i think there will be a link that i can post here so you can see the photos without having to sign up for facebook. Part of the reason for starting this blog in the first place was to eventually get away from facebook. That doesn’t seem to be working out so well!

A day in the life….

I moved into my new home on monday – i thought the 15th would never get here!!  I arrived around 10 in the morning and started cleaning non-stop for 5 hours.  I even forgot to eat!  All those years of fasting does have it’s benefits! I only stopped because i ran out of cleaning products!  I was tired but felt better that the house was somewhat cleaner.  Still have lots more to do but it feels more habitable now!

I invited sue, the woman who helped me find this place, to come over for some champagne and appetizers to help celebrate my first nite at 6 rue michelet.  She arrived with a huge bouquet of lilies and some chocolate (naughty naughty!!) – they both look beautiful on my kitchen table! 🙂

So we had a very nice evening and after she left i cleaned up the kitchen and was ready to go to bed at 8:30 – unheard of for me!  The best part was that i woke up at 6 the next morning!  It was the first time i’ve slept thru the nite since i arrived in collioure. i thought that was quite an auspicious beginning to my life here!

The next morning, i went to sit outside in my garden with a book to read.  The sun was warm on my back and it was so wonderful to be surrounded by plants!  This is what i’ve been missing all these years!!  There’s a LOT to be done here, but i was able to just enjoy the moment and didn’t start obsessing about all the things i wanted to do to fix it up.  It was truly blissful. The energy of plants is so peaceful and healing….
